Lion teeth are symbols of rank, leadership and power. In some traditional cultures, high-status leaders would wear necklaces of large lion teeth to symbolize their rank and authority in society. Lions' teeth have very strong medicinal properties and should be handled and worn with much respect.
At Lion’s Tooth Leadership we do not condone pulling out lions' teeth. We do however use the tooth as a metaphor for power and healing that you can receive through self-awareness and discovery.
The Dandelion's common name derives from the leaves' jagged appearance. The Normans called it dent de lion, or "lion's tooth." English speakers twisted the name into what we know today. The plant's botanical name, however, reflects its long history of medicinal use. The genus name comes from the Greek taraxos for "disorder"—and akos for "remedy." The species name, officinale, refers to its widely accepted use in medicine.
The difference between a flower and a weed is a judgment. ~ Unknown
Dandelions are incredibly persistent and solid flowers, some might refer to them as a weed and others may describe them as a medicinal herb. Lion’s Tooth Leadership leverages the symbol of the dandelion to represent resilience and grit.
Our Founder, Leah N'Diaye, married into the N'Diaye family. The totem of the N'Diaye family is the lion, symbol of royalty and power in Serer and Wolof mythology. This symbol is deeply personal to the N'Diaye family and our founder pulled from this symbol as inspiration to create Lion's Tooth Leadership.
